It has been added to my whitelist for my antivirus (no change).ħ. (Each time they load a white screen instead of black. (checks out).Ģ.Running the compatibility options for each version of Windows. I've tried everything I could find that was applicable.ġ. I've gone through the forums and Google searched other forums. I added Fable to my exceptions list in my antivirus and made sure the exception was active. That's when the game crashes.ĭirect X is up to date. If I hit spacebar, it closes the dialogue box and I get to see the logo hero walking forward (with sound). The box is empty except for the "okay" button. The game loads with a black screen and immediately opens a dialogue box. I've just installed Fable Anniversary Edition and I'm trying to start it up. I'm leaving this post here, in case anyone else runs into similar. It's only ever been trouble for me, and not saved me from any true infections. It's blocked numerous programs, and deleted some I know to be safe. I will be getting a new antivirus when my subscription with them runs out. After trying everything else, and scouring for another solution, I checked again, despite having already done so, and lo and behold, it was blocked again. Everything looked good there (it was listed, and active). I went in and changed the settings so it was allowed (whitelisted) and double checked it. My antivirus (BitDefender) was blocking it. I agree with /u/cheesesocks that never fixing such a serious and widespread bug is a scandal, especially given Lionhead Studios' recent closure by Microsoft.***Edit: I spent some serious time trying to find a fix for this issue. My completely unsourced speculation is that the original Xbox version's code was not properly rewritten to handle how the Xbox 360 version handles disk access when installed to the hard drive. This stabilized things enormously I finished the game and bundled DLC with "only" three more crashes that I can recall.Īfter doing the above, a few times I saw the game stall for several seconds before continuing. After reading /u/zashule's reply, I tried deleting the game from the hard drive and running it completely from DVD. Both my units are Elite models manufactured within a month of each other in early 2008 perhaps the bug is at least partly hardware-related? The only other thing I can think of is to delete the game from the hard drive then reinstall it from the DVD to force redownloading any patches, but I am not optimistic.ĮDIT: Success! Deleting the system cache to force redownloading patches, and deleting the game from the hard drive and reinstalling it (I normally always do install on the hard drive, to speed up disk access), did not help. I know others have reported that the game is stable for them. I did not play the original Xbox version of the game, but hear that it was similarly unstable and that the bugs carried over into the remastered version. I've only finished the bandits quest in the orchard and Fable has already crashed as often as every other game I've played on the 360 in eight years put together. I've had games on the console crash occasionally-it is a computer, after all-but crashes have been very rare I recently finished Dead Space and Borderlands without seeing one, for example. I didn't play the game for about a year, then tried it again recently after replacing the console because of a bad DVD drive. I know this is a known issue discussed on Reddit and elsewhere, but wanted to bring it up again.Īfter buying Fable Anniversary, I noticed how it repeatedly crashed the Xbox 360 every couple of hours.
